week 8 of critical literacy.

This week basically we have intensive classes through out the week specializing for our first assignment that is portfolio on brief response to questions and exercises. We need to analyze and give critical response towards four article that have been provided. However on Friday we have watch a short video about argument clinic by Monty Python. It criticise about the existence of the argument clinic in certain countries and mostly in western countries. Due to that we have been given two question regarding the video that we have watch, the first one is 'what if we have an argument clinic in Malaysia and how does it impact the citizen?', the second one is ' what will happen if people have lower expectation of you, what will happen to you?'.



If in Malaysia argument clinic is to be created in Malaysia it will give negative impact to the citizen. The motive of argument clinic is to teach people on how to argued with other people, and if this kind of clinic exist in Malaysia, the peoples' behaviour will be different from what has been established today. The people will use their left brain more rather than using both brain equally. It is because, people need to use their left brain to argued as the function of the left brain is to critical thinking and critically thinking is important when arguing as the person who is arguing need to find reason fast. The effect of this situation is that people will always criticise and argued about all the things around them and this will then lead to fight among the citizen.



The second question, what will happen if people have lower expectation of you? as for that, the will only be two outcome of that situation that is first, the person who has been underestimate stands up for himself or herself and proves other people that there are wrong, second the person just gives up with their life and let everybody judges him or her like that. The first situation will only happen to person that have strong spirit and has a high level of self advice to face the world of people being so judgemental and the second situation are the most common to occur in today's society. I have once face this kind of situation where my own parents underestimated with me, they keep comparing me with my other siblings. At first, I put myself in the second situation where I ignore what other people said and let them with their judgement. It is because, I cannot endure with the comparison any longer so I just put my self in deaf mode whenever my parents comparing me or nagging to me. However, now I have changed, I want to proves to my parents that I can also succeed like my siblings. Being a college student has teach me a lot, and definitely it make me think deeply about my situation and also teach me that each person is special in their own way.

week 5 and week 6

This week we all have been assigned to prepare for a debate. Each group consist of four person and each group will have one main topic and one challenged topic, that mean that each group will go through two debates. The debate consist of two round that is the first round is where the debators present all of their points and the second round is the most interesting round where we can see interesting debates between the debators, how they defend their point and prove that the other debators group is wrong.



week 5



This week there are three topic that have been debate about that is 'money is the root of evil',' we are happy as we can be', and 'there is no honest person in the world'. The debate on 'Money is not the root of all evil' has taken place on monday 8/2/2010 and the debates is between Wan Radziman's group that is consist of Wan Radziman, Syafiq Anuar, Mohd Zayani and the only flower in the group Nur Hanis and their opponent is Izzati's group that consist of Nurul Izzati, Aimi Nadhirah, Ayuni and Nur Farhana Liyana that is me, however I was absent due to the leave that was given by the college principal as I was involve in the 'Program Nadwah Islamiah' from 5 until 7/2/2010. The winner for the debates is Izzati's group where they oppose the topic 'Money is the root of all evil' and Izzati has been chosen as the best speaker. In my opinion. money is not the root of evil, money does not turn people to the bad sad, money help people in their life, what makes people turn evil is the greed. Greed people are often unsatiesfied with what they have,they often want more than enough and can not stand if other people have more than them.



As for the topic 'We are happy as we can be' the debators for this topic is Siti nurliyana's group that consist of Siti Nurliyana, Ain Nadira, Mohd Fares and Nik Nurul Hamizah and their opponent is Nur Ashila's group that consist of Nur Ashila, Farihin, Afiqah and Saedah however Saedah is absence due to her fever.In this debate, Liyana has been chosen as the best speaker as she can defense her point well. Liyana's group support the topic while Ashila's group go against it. Liyana's group come out with a good content such as we have a supporting family, a good health. However the content manage been opposed by Ashila's group. They stated theri stance that we can not be as happy we can be due to the problem that we might face, not everybody has a good and supporting family and we are not always healthy as the group said. As for me, I agree with Ashila's group that is we can not be as happy we can be. In real life, we will always face variety kind of problem that sometimes even challenge our faith but we need to have a strong stance in our religion so that we can keep our humanity and enjoy our life at the same time.

The third debate topic is there is no honest person in the world. The group that obtain this topic are Ahmda Ibrahim's group that consist of Ahmad Ibrahim, Nurul Zahin, Ainnatul Mardhiah and Nadzmie. The opposing group is Liyana's group. Ahmad Ibrahim has been chosen as the best speaker at that time. During the debate, I can see that Ahmad Ibrahim has given the opposing group a hard time when he had come out with his argument and ideas on the topic. He touch on the political world where the politics people manipulate the citizen in order to obtain the citizan trust, in the end all the promises that the politics did remain as a promises only. What about my opinion on this topic, at certain point,I do agree with Ahmad Ibrahim that is there a few person that truly honest in this world. Nowadays, people lying to other people for their own benefit has becoming a common situation in the world where nobody can do anythong about it, especially the politics people. The citizen has no evidence to go against them, and even though they have, the politician will use their power to 'shut' the citizen's mouth up.

Week 6

In week 6, the debate continue with the topic TV can not educate by Farhan Hadi's group that consist of Farhan Hadi, Fatimatuzzahra, Huda and Fatin, they as the opposing group while the group that support the topic is Nur Syafiqah's group, the members are Nur Syafiqah, Nur Asyiqin,Nurul Syafiqah and Naziha. The council of judges can not decide who is the winning team for this topic as they can not come out with a very good premises to support their proposition. As for me, I have my own point of view about this topic, that is whether TV can educate or not it actually depends on the person itself. whether he or she decide to watch a educational program where he or she can obtain knowledge from it or he or she wants to watch entertaiment program that provide amusement only. I am not saying that entertaiment program is not good, it is a medium that can help the person to relese their strees after working or studying the whole day but it depends on the entertaiment program that the person choose. In short, whether TV can educate or not, it depends on the person to decide for him or herself.

During this week also, we have watch a movie that tittle Animal Farm. it is about a farm where the animal in the farm have form a revolution to the farmer and they have gain control over the farm. The conflict started when the leaders that is among the pigs have different opinion on how the farm should be runs. Snowball offers a organizational that full with new ideas that can lead to a better future, on the other hand, Napoleon believes that only the dictator ways can help the farm into a better future. This movie portrays the coruption of the revolution by its leader and each of the main character represent the leaders from those days.
